Operation Slipper 48mm Medallion order now from the military specialists. In 2001 Australia answered the call to join the international fight against terrorism. Following heinous attacks by terrorists on symbolic western targets the world's attention turned to Afghanistan - the base of operations for the Al Qaeda terrorist organisation.
Over 13 years more than 34,500 Australian Defence Force personnel served in the Middle East Area of Operations alongside Australian Public Service employees, Australian Federal Police and representatives from other government agencies. Thousands more served in government and across industry to enable and support our frontline forces. Operation SLIPPER ended on 31 December 2014. This is Australia's longest operation.
The double-sided Gold plated Op Slipper medallion is reminiscent of the 'challenge coins' widely used as 'ice breakers' by troops from coalition nations in areas of operations. The Op Slipper commemorative medallion features the tri-service colours, to represent the Australian Defence Force, and a bounding kangaroo to represent the non-combatant contribution which included AFP and APS personnel.
The medallion is 48mmm in diameter and 4mm deep. The reverse features the Australian Coat of Arms and the years 2001-2014. Presented in clear PVC envelope
